The charming small fishing village of Grundarfjörður is located in the middle of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and thus provides easy access to Stykkishólmur, Snæfellsbær and the Snæfellsnes National Park. Its best-known landmark is undoubtedly the peak of Mt. Kirkjufell. Translated as ‘church mountain,’ Kirkjufell is the most easily recognizable peak, and one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. During summer months a Viking Village is built in the centre of town where Viking re-enactments occur quite regularly. The surrounding sea is rich with birdlife & marine life throughout the year.

The Westfjords in northwest Iceland is a remote and sparsely populated peninsula of steep, tall mountains cut by dozens of fjords. The raw and untamed natural landscape around Ísafjörður is characterized by a subarctic environment. A colourful show of blooming tundra wildflowers carpets the mountain slopes and valleys during the short, cool summer. Keep your binoculars handy. Iceland's western fjords are prime whale watching waters and, if your luck's in, you may just spot a tell-tale spout of water.

Established in the mid-17th century, Akureyri is home to Iceland's largest fishing company and its biggest shipyard. Viking sagas, spectacular fjords, snow-capped mountains... Iceland's Capital of the North is also surprisingly mild and the so-called Green Town is made for those long summer days.

On your journey from Akureyri, experience the beauty of Eyjafjordur as your cruise through Iceland’s longest fjord. Enjoying a wealth of wildlife due to its fertile waters, it is one of the best places in Iceland for whale and puffin watching.

Journey past the remote island of Hrisey, widely hailed as “The Pearl of Eyjafjordur”, due to its beauty and tranquility. The island itself is about seven kilometres long and 2,5 kilometres wide yet is rich in birdlife and a haven for more than 40 species of birds.

Spend the morning today sailing through Arctic Norway. You’ll notice how the landscape and scenery is different from Bergen and the Helgeland Coast. The climate is usually a bit cooler too. Arriving in the small town of Honningsvåg in the late afternoon, you’ll visit one of the northernmost points in Europe as part of an included excursion. The scenic bus ride from Honningsvåg passes small bays and tiny villages, then crosses a mountain plateau before arriving at spectacular North Cape. At 71°10’21´N, it is just 2,100 kilometres away from the Geographic North Pole.

Stand at the edge of the cliff and gaze out on the sea. Only the Svalbard Archipelago separates you from the North Pole. North Cape feels like the end of the world. It’s also a great place to take stunning photos and there will be enough time to visit the North Cape Hall´s cinema, showing a short film about the North Cape Plateau, and there are several exhibits open to visitors. Back in Honningsvåg, you can opt to stroll about, past charming houses, shops and a church that was the only structure left standing at the end of World War II. This is the ship’s turning point and from here we start our return trip southward. Keep looking skyward!

A latecomer to Norwegian cruising, the Lofoten Islands have quickly become popular because of their picturesque fishing villages, awesome views of pristine fjords and huge variety of birdlife.

You can reach Narvik on cruises to northern Norway. Indeed it is actually one of the most northerly towns in the world - 220 kilometres inside the Arctic Circle - yet surprisingly mild thanks to a combination of the North Atlantic Current and mountains which encircle the town and shelter it from winds.

A brief stop in Kristiansund for guests wishing to take a trip along the Atlantic Road, to Molde. Kristiansund's location on four sea islands in the Norwegian Sea has steadily provided livelihoods in the fishing, shipbuilding and oil industries. Interested in history? A decisive battle between Danish and Norwegian Vikings was fought near here in 955 and later noted in the famous ‘Lives of the Norse Kings’ by Snorre Sturlasson. After lunch, we reach Norway’s ‘City of Roses’ – Molde, where you rejoin the ship again.

Ålesund is renowned for its beautiful art nouveau architecture. This owes to a devastating fire that burned a large part of the city to the ground in 1904. The entire town was subsequently rebuilt in the fashionable art nouveau style of the time. Take the opportunity to wander Ålesund’s charming cobblestone streets and admire the numerous spires, towers and highly-ornate buildings. Norway is a seafood nation and Ålesund is its fisheries capital. Take the opportunity to visit the Norwegian Aquarium - built directly into the rocky coastline, the aquarium is also an architectural marvel. Due to excellent oceanic conditions along the Norwegian coast, the aquarium features a colourful and exciting range of fish and fauna, including octopus, seals and penguins.
