The narrow, cobblestone streets are lined with 16th and 17th century Spanish colonial houses, with plants trailing from wrought-iron balconies. These give some welcome shade from the ever-shining sun as you make your way to the 16th century fortress, El Morro, still seemingly on guard against invaders from the sea.
