The historic naming ceremony of Queen Anne

On 3 June 2024, Cunard’s newest ship Queen Anne became centre stage as the luxury cruise line held a glorious naming ceremony in its spiritual home of Liverpool, with thousands of people gathering along the waterfront to witness the historic event.

Following her maiden voyage to Lisbon on 3 May 2024, Queen Anne will operate a maiden east west World Voyage featuring iconic destinations across Europe, Middle East, Asia, Australia and South Africa. She offers a space to suit every mood on board with her breathtaking interiors and thoughtful details throughout.

The iconic smashing of the Champagne bottle against the ship signified the historic moment and wished the vessel and its crew good fortune on its future voyages. Celebrations featured performances from iconic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and more. Cunard named the City of Liverpool as Godparent of Queen Anne, in recognition of the long-lasting bond with its spiritual home. On behalf of the City of Liverpool, Cunard selected five distinguished Liverpool icons to represent the city and officially name Queen Anne.

Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “I would like to thank our Liverpool Icons, these amazing women, for representing the city and taking part in this historic ceremony and to all of the people of Liverpool for once again opening your hearts and welcoming Cunard and Queen Anne.”

Cunard’s latest edition to their fleet marks the completion of a perfect quartet, alongside Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria. Queen Anne will be visiting South Africa for the first time in 2025, visiting Durban and Cape Town, a positive for South African passengers.
