Cunard Celebrates 185 Years of Glamour with Royal Visit to Liverpool.

Cunard is set to mark a major milestone this month as Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal leads the cruise line’s 185th anniversary celebrations in Liverpool on 27 May.

The commemorations begin a day earlier, on 26 May, with the arrival of Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, in the River Mersey, nearly a year after her memorable naming ceremony in Liverpool, Cunard’s historic home.

Her Royal Highness will carry out her first official tour of Queen Anne, welcomed with a ceremonial performance by the British Army Band Catterick. The visit will celebrate Cunard’s 185-year maritime legacy, its deep-rooted ties with Liverpool, and the leadership of Queen Anne’s Captains, Dave Hudson and Inger Thorhauge.

As part of the festivities, Cunard will unveil its ‘Sea of Glamour’ exhibition at the Royal Liver Building. The exhibition, curated by acclaimed photographer Mary McCartney, will highlight 185 years of ocean travel elegance, showcasing the grandeur and cultural significance of life at sea. Queen Anne’s Icons, five women from Liverpool chosen to symbolise the city’s connection to the ship, which uniquely names Liverpool as her godparent will also take part in the launch.

Cunard President Katie McAlister said: “This is a significant moment in our history. We’re truly privileged to welcome Her Royal Highness to Liverpool as we honour 185 years of tradition. The Sea of Glamour exhibition beautifully reflects the style and legacy that have defined Cunard and our enduring relationship with this remarkable city.”
